Meet the Band

Kate Aitchison - Piano and Vocals

Kate is a professional music therapist, vocalist and pianist. Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in music and a Graduate Diploma in music therapy at the University of Queensland. Kate currently works as a music therapist in Children’s Health Queensland, with adolescents experiencing severe and complex mental health issues. Kate has sung in choirs and ensembles including the University of Queensland School of Music Choir; The Clue, a pop-music cover band; and Zuite, a medium-sized jazz band. Kate has performed at numerous public and private venues with these ensembles.

Stuart Coyle - Guitar

Stuart started learning folk guitar way back around 1974. He then went on to get training in classical guitar and moving on to playing prog-rock and other styles of rock with bands in Perth over the 1980’s. He played for ‘The Impressionists’, a local Brisbane band in the late 1990’s. Stuart spent some time in Sydney playing with the swing trio ‘Vinnie and the Moonlighters’. He’s currently a student of Rob Reeves and has played with the Rob Reeves trio as a guest. He has a degree in Physics and Graduate Diploma in Computer Engineering, which is not quite entirely irrelevant to his music.

Great aka Kanisorn Borsuwan - Bass

Was an university entrance tutor at Music Plus Academy Silpakorn University, Thailand and a bass guitar teacher at Mulino Music, Thailand. He has performed in leading hotels and restaurants in Thailand and performed in Silpakorn Jazz A capella band at Thailand Jazz Competition 2017, Silpakorn Jazz Ochestra at the Thailand International Jazz Conference 2018, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “An evening of Aretha Franklin Songs” at Culture Collective Studio in Thailand and the Thailland Jazz Compitetion 2017.

Dave Fernandez - Drums

Dave is a trained classical Indian tabla player but has now turned his percussive intent toward playing jazz drums.

Jane Wei - Viola, Keyboard

Jane is a viola player and student of jazz piano at the Jazz Music Institute in Brisbane. She first met drummer Dave while jamming on tabla funk-fusion projects, but her connection to the jazz language eventually brought her to converge with the band!

Influenced by the toe-tapping swing of manouche giants Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt, and the passionate tango lines of world music cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Jane brings the same love for musical eclecticism to the warm sound of the viola.

When not with the band, she plays with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jazz Music Institute Big Band, Latin-funk-fusion band Revelation Groove, and various other local projects ranging from pop covers to baroque music.
